Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled ‘Resto-Mod Vehicle Technician’ to join our team at Current EV Motors. This primarily hands-on role emphasizes traditional vehicle technician work with a strong focus on resto-mod projects—restoring and modifying both vintage/classic vehicles and fleet/commercial vehicles (such as trucks, vans, school buses, and transit vehicles) to incorporate modern electric powertrains and features. Using our patented MONOLITH direct-drive system, and other high quality systems, you will help transform older vehicles into efficient, high-performance “current” EVs that blend heritage with cutting-edge electrification, ensuring bolt-on compatibility, reliability, and superior results. *No EV-Conversion experience is required for this role.

This is a contract position with competitive pay, offering the opportunity for extension or transition to full-time based on performance and company needs. Work will be based in Dripping Springs, TX, in a dynamic environment where your technician expertise will directly contribute to our mission of advancing mobility through vehicle re-purposing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on restoration, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of vintage/classic cars, trucks, and fleet vehicles to prepare them for EV re-powering and modern upgrades.

  • Integrate EV components—including motors, batteries, controllers, wiring harnesses, and our MONOLITH direct-drive system—into older vehicle chassis, frames, and drivetrains, ensuring seamless fitment and performance.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and structural systems, adapting traditional automotive mechanics to electric conversions while maintaining or enhancing original vehicle character.

  • Customize resto-mod builds for both vintage (e.g., classic trucks like 1970s Ford F-Series, Broncos) and fleet applications (e.g., fleet trucks, vans, and busses), including suspension, braking, light bodywork, and interior modernizations.

  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment, and safety standards; document processes for quality assurance, compliance, and customer records.

  • Collaborate with engineers and the team to prototype, test, and refine conversion kits, providing practical feedback from real-world installation and vehicle testing.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; ASE certification or technical training in automotive technology preferred. 5+ years as a professional vehicle technician, with demonstrated expertise in resto-mod, classic car restoration, or fleet/commercial vehicle maintenance and modification.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with automotive diagnostics tools, welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs; strong understanding of traditional drivetrains, suspensions, and electrical basics. Experience with EV systems or conversions is a plus but not required—training provided.

  • Hands-On Requirement: Extensive experience in shop environments disassembly, assembly, wiring, integration, and diverse repair tasks. Expertise as a vehicle technician is critical – comfort handling everything from routine maintenance to complex custom resto-mod builds.

  • Soft Skills: Independent and organized problem-solver with excellent communication; thrives in fast-paced environments; possesses an urgency to perform and complete tasks.

What We Offer

  • Competitive contract pay based on experience and skills.

  • Opportunities for growth and potential transition to full-time role in an innovative, and growing company.

  • Hands-on impact on transforming both vintage classics and fleet vehicles into modern icons of power and longevity.

  • Flexible work environment focused on innovation and results.
