Automotive Technician
Current EV Motors | Dripping Springs, TX (Austin area) | On-site
Current EV Motors converts vintage vehicles and commercial fleets to electric using our patented direct-drive kits. We combine classic-car craftsmanship with modern EV systems so the vehicles people already own become cleaner, stronger, and simpler to maintain.
We need a skilled Automotive Technician who likes turning wrenches on real projects—not just talking about them.
About the Role
You will prepare vehicles, install conversion components, perform mechanical upgrades, support electrical work, and help deliver finished, road-ready conversions. Work spans vintage trucks and classics as well as fleet vehicles (trucks, vans, buses). EV-specific training is provided; strong traditional technician skills are the foundation.
Responsibilities
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and prepare vehicles for EV conversion (engine/transmission removal, chassis and driveline work, rust or structural issues as needed).
Install motors/e-axles, battery packs, controllers, cooling, charging hardware, and related components to kit specifications.
Perform or support mechanical upgrades common to resto-mod and fleet work: brakes, suspension, steering, mounts, and driveline adaptations.
Route and connect wiring (low-voltage and high-voltage under engineer guidance and after safety training).
Diagnose mechanical and basic electrical issues; support testing and final quality checks.
Keep work areas organized, follow shop safety procedures, and document work clearly.
Collaborate with engineers and the rest of the small shop team to hit project timelines.
Qualifications
3+ years as a professional automotive technician (ASE or equivalent training preferred).
Solid mechanical skills across chassis, brakes, suspension, and drivetrain. Experience removing and replacing engines/transmissions is valuable even though we are taking them out.
Comfort reading diagrams and using common shop tools and diagnostic equipment.
Physical ability to work in a shop environment (lifting, standing, working under vehicles).
Reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated by building things that actually drive.
Expectations
Punctuality and commitment: Arrive on time and complete a day’s work without excuses.
Personal drive and sense of urgency in all things.
Organization of thought, personal space, and the communal shop/work environment.
A success-through-innovation philosophy.
Nice to Have
Vintage, classic, or resto-mod experience.
Welding or light fabrication.
Any hybrid/EV or high-voltage exposure (we will train on our systems and safety protocols).
Fleet or commercial vehicle background.
What We Offer
Competitive pay (full-time or contract-to-hire), hands-on work on distinctive vehicles, and a growing, fully HVAC’d, shop between Dripping Springs and Austin, TX. Opportunity to learn cutting-edge EV conversion technology while using core technician skills every day.
