Current EV Motors is a fast-growing EV powertrain company specializing in repowering vintage and fleet vehicles. We have developed and patented our own direct-drive systems and focus on high-quality, scalable EV conversions that deliver performance, reliability, and safety. We have expanded our dedicated shop facility in Dripping Springs and are building a skilled team to support prototype builds, customer conversions, and fleet programs.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a skilled Automotive Technician to join our hands-on team of builders and innovators – in a FULLY HVAC’d – automotive shop / warehouse environment. You will perform mechanical, electrical, and integration work on a variety of vehicles undergoing traditional-to-EV conversions. This is a shop-based role with opportunities to work on unique classic vehicles, cutting-edge EV powertrains, and fleet projects. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, highly organized, problem solvers who thrive in a small, dynamic team environment and are excited about all things automotive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of vehicle chassis, drivetrains, suspension, brakes, steering, and body components for EV conversion projects.

  • Install and integrate EV powertrain components including electric motors, batteries, inverters, wiring harnesses, chargers, and thermal management systems.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and (traditional 12V electrical) systems using diagnostic tools and traditional methods.

  • Install or modify brackets, mounts, adapters, and other custom parts as needed.  Fabrication experience is helpful, but not required.

  • Conduct vehicle testing, and quality assurance to ensure safety, performance, and compliance standards are met and the vehicle is ready for delivery.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment; follow proper high-voltage safety protocols (proper instructions and training provided).

  • Document work performed, parts used, and issues encountered for project records and customer handoff. *Organization and good communication are key for this role.

  • Collaborate with team members on prototype builds and process improvements.

  • Support fleet conversion projects and occasional field installation/support as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and high level of purpose and drive.

  • 3+ years of professional automotive technician experience (ASE certification preferred).

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in engine/drivetrain swaps, suspension work, and electrical systems.  Automotive interest and hands-on experience required.

  • Familiarity with high-voltage systems, EVs, or hybrid vehicles is highly desirable, but not required (training available for strong candidates).

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.

  • Proficiency with standard shop tools, diagnostic equipment, lifts, and alignment tools.

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; experience towing or transporting vehicles a plus.

  • Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a collaborative team mindset.

  • Experience with classic/vintage vehicles or fleet maintenance is a bonus.
